Problem
ROXBURY, NEW JERSEY — Dominick Bianco, president and owner of BDP Plumbing and Heating for over 15 years, is well-versed in plumbing products available on the market.
Bianco frequently opts for Saniflo products for particular applications, specifically noting its condensate pumps used to neutralize and remove acidic condensate from condensing boilers, HVAC systems, water heaters, etc. “We install at least five of Saniflo’s Sanicondens Best Flat Kits a week, on average,” Bianco says.
However, in cases where a new sewage ejector pump needed to be installed, Bianco historically had no choice but to opt for traditional sewage ejectors, whose technology has gone essentially unchanged for years and whose performance is often problematic.
During a recent residential project, BDP had to replace one of these failing sewage ejectors. According to Bianco, the steel pit was deteriorating, and the ejector pit had failed due to a collapsing line. Over time, the system was not pumping as efficiently as it should have been.
“It came to a point where we were ready to jackhammer through the floors to replace lines,” Bianco explains. “Then we would have to change out the pit and put in a new ejector pump.”
Bianco was already familiar with this type of project and had initially determined the brand and model needed for this job. However, he decided to call his local sales representative to see if another solution might be available on the market.
Solution
While on the phone with a manufacturer representative, Bianco learned that Saniflo had just released the Sanipit 24 GR CB, a new pre-assembled sewage grinder pump kit with its own basin.
“When they told me about the new product, I thought this would be a perfect time to try it out,” he says.
Before discovering the Sanipit 24 GR CB, Bianco and his team initially chose to use a product made by Liberty Pumps to replace the customer’s sewage ejector pump. However, Bianco quickly changed the quote given to his client and informed them they would use a Saniflo ejector pump instead.
Bianco also conducted further research about the new product by reading an informative brochure and watching an installation video. He noted that it looked cool, was different, and seemed easier to install.
“There were many benefits to this product,” says Bianco, “You can replace or service the pump without getting your hands dirty.”
That’s because one of Sanipit’s key differentiators is its ability to create a dry cavity within the pit. Unlike other pumping systems that sit directly in sewage, SFA Saniflo’s design keeps the components and the motor separate, ensuring a hassle-free and mess-free experience for installers and service technicians.
After watching the Sanipit demonstration video, Bianco and his team felt confident they could install the new product, even though this was their first time.
Seven fixtures in a full kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room, plus condensate from a boiler, drain into the sewage pump. From the unit, the wastewater is pumped eight feet vertically through a two-inch discharge pipe that angles horizontally and runs 20 feet through the first and second floors until it reaches the roof. In all, the unit has a vent run of 35 feet.
Results
Installing the Sanipit 24 GR CB took no longer than two hours, and Bianco was pleasantly surprised by how straightforward it was.
“I like that you don’t have to line up various connections that make installations more complicated,” he says. “You can just drop the unit in, which makes everything else work out much easier. I went back to check everything after installation, and it was all good.”
The swift and effortless completion of the installation offered a refreshing glimpse into what could be a new standard for installations of sewage ejector systems. By streamlining the process, Sanipit reduces the potential for errors that can take up a contractor’s entire workday.
The quality and performance of the Sanipit 24 GR CB have made it Bianco’s new go-to for future residential sewage ejector projects.
