New Jersey Company Innovates with Above-Floor Plumbing To Make Outdoor Bathrooms a Breeze
Case Studies 08/28/2018
Many dream of having a cabana next to their pool or outdoor recreation area to mirror the lifestyles of the rich and famous. It offers more than just the convenience of not having to travel to use the bathroom during a pool party—an outdoor bath means tracking less dirt, sand and water into the home.
For the average consumer, such luxuries have typically been out of reach, costing more than 15 thousand dollars. One company, however, is making outdoor bath and shower enclosures affordable. Farmingdale, NJ-based ToddPod builds outdoor shower stalls and bathrooms in various models and configurations, typically costing between two and five thousand dollars.
Of course, these enclosures need a way to handle plumbing. ToddPod owner Dawn Samuels says the simplest solution is above-floor plumbing technology from SFA Saniflo. “The possibility for our outdoor shower enclosures exists solely because of Saniflo’s above-floor plumbing products, which make installing a bathroom anywhere simple and affordable,” explains Samuels.
ToddPod’s outdoor enclosures are built to accommodate the Sanicubic 1 grinding system, in conjunction with the round-front toilet bowl made of vitreous china. The plumbing is not built into the enclosure but installed later by a contractor hired by the customer. “Although we don’t install the plumbing, our enclosures are designed specifically for Saniflo,” says Samuels.
The one-horsepower Sanicubic 1 grinding system handles wastewater from a toilet, sink or shower in the outdoor enclosure. Effluent enters the unit, which grinds it into slurry before pumping it up to 36 vertical feet and/or 328 horizontal feet to the drain line.
This heavy-duty grinder was chosen for its ability to handle the accidental flushing of sanitary articles, such as feminine products, baby wipes, dental floss, etc. “In an outdoor setting, especially if there’s a large party, you never know what guests will flush down the toilet,” explains Samuels. “The grinder will handle even the toughest flushes.”
Samuels describes one customer’s experience with the showers. “The gentleman lives in Waretown, New Jersey, right on the shoreline and loves hosting outdoor parties during the summer. His home also happened to be built with an outdoor shower head, so an enclosure was a natural fit,” explains Samuels.
The enclosure and plumbing were installed on his property during the summer of 2017. The grinding unit pumps wastewater from a toilet, sink and shower 12 vertical feet and 30 horizontal feet to the sewer line.
“The unit works just like it’s supposed to for him, and he has already enjoyed many outdoor get-togethers thanks to the outdoor enclosure,” says Samuels.
Such an outcome is exactly what ToddPod hopes for. “The ability to install an outdoor bathroom simply and affordably opens up a whole range of possibilities for customers not wishing to spend a fortune on improving their lifestyles,” says Samuels.
